5 Ways to train your brain to be more happy

If you find you're always getting distracted, meditation might offer a fix.  It can boost concentration and your ability to perform tasks, suggests a study published in Psychological Science.  Researchers measured how well people attending a meditation retreat could distinguish between lines of different lengths flashed on a screen and found that the more often and longer the subjects meditated, the better they did on the test.

1. YOGA!! (happiness helper)

Researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine investigated whether yoga or walking made people happier; well yoga was the answer.  They found people who did an hour of yoga three times a week reported being happier and less anxious than those who did light walking for the same amount of time.  And the science backed them up.  The yoga types had higher levels of mood-boosting chemicals in their brains as well.

2. Think yourself SMOKE FREE

Here's a new way to make it easier to quit smoking. A Yale University study found smokers' cravings dropped dramatically when they used cognitive strategies, like thinking about emphysema and bad skin.  "People who though [about those things] showed reduced activity in the brain areas associated with cravings," says lead researcher Hedy Kober. It also worked for chocolate, too!

3. Web-Savvy: too much information

Still posting stuff you shouldn't? Blame Facebook. A new study found people are more likely to divulge sensitive info online (like admitting they've cheated on their partners) if the site doesn't cue them to consider confidentiality. "This suggests that the fun, frivolous feel of social networking sites suppresses privacy concerns," says lead researcher Leslie John. Think twice: Always pause before you post.

4. Retail Therapy

Ever wonder why shopping feels so good? Well it's all in the bag, says researcher from the University of Minnesota. They had women walk around a mall for an hour, carrying a plain pink bag or a Victoria's Secret bag. Women with branded bags felt more feminine, glamorous and attractive than those with nondescript ones.  Test this theory yourself by hitting your favorite boutique.

5. Say NO to Inosomnia

Never mind going down a dress size - aeorbics exercise can also help you sleep better.  A new study published in Sleep Medicine found doing regular aerobic exercise reduced the sleeplessness in insomniacs.  The participants' quality of sleep improved, and they had more vitality and felt less daytime fatigue.
